About

I was born in Preston, Lancashire, England in the 73rd year of last century. According to many of my colleagues this makes me ancient, but my mental age is far lower than my grey hairs would have you believe!

My day job involves writing software for use on flight simulators. It is interesting work that pays the bills but ultimately is not what makes me tick. Mountains, travel, and wild places are my thing. I just love the great outdoors, be it on a bike near home on a warm summer's evening, or on foot, high on a mountain ridge in winter in desperate weather conditions.

Without a doubt my interest in photography can be blamed on my father. He runs his own graphic design company and is a true artist at heart. Without him I would never have been wowed by the magic of the darkroom, or found pleasure in the art of photography.

I rarely go out specifically to take photographs, just happen to take them when I’m out. If by chance this coincides with great early morning or evening light then so much the better. I am working hard on improving my field technique with my minimalist choice of equipment and intend only to publish images on this site with which I am happy.

The dream? Same as most folk - to make a living doing what I love in places that I love to be. Alain Briot has written extensively about this, not least the difference between being an artist, and being an artist in business i.e. the dangers of mixing business with pleasure. I’ll hold on to my day job for the time being!
